How to care for Horween Chromexcel and Oiled Leathers with Saphir Greasy Leather Cream

Some of our favorite shoes and boots are made with Horween Chromexcel (CXL) or oiled leathers such as the Red Wing 875s pictured above. We have gotten a lot of inquiries as to which leather care product we recommend for such types of shoes or boots. For CXL or oiled leather shoes and boots we highly recommend Saphir Greasy Leather Cream. This cream is designed to restore and recondition oily leathers, leathers that are infused with oils in the tanning process. Saphir Greasy Leather Cream does not contain any waxes, waxes are not ideal for oily leathers because they would alter the natural rugged look of oiled leathers.

Furthermore, this product is very easy to use.

One of our classic favorites, the Red Wing 875s pictured above is about 8 months old and needed a nice cleaning and conditioning. We took a damp rag and wiped dirt and dust off the boots. (However, if your shoes or boots are super dirty, you may consider using a leather soap to clean off the leather). After about 10 minutes, the leather dried, and we simply just applied the Greasy Leather Cream with our fingers in a circular motion. Finally just let the leather dry and all finished. No need to buff or brush. VERY SIMPLE.

As you can see the 875s leather's color really is brought back to life. Before, it was looking a little dull and beat up. FYI we applied the neutral color and the cream did slightly darken the leather.
